SMIT - System Management Interface Tool

What is smit basically?
SMIT stands for System Management Interface Tool.

Let us see what is smit or smitty.
Smit is bascially a command tool used to run other commands. Smit is an interactive tool with graphical interface(menu based). Smit can run in 2 modes, either ASCII(text based) or graphical mode.

General syntax for SMIT is;
#smit [flag] [FastPath]

At the command interface:-
To use smit in ASCII mode type in
#smit or smitty -a

To use smit in menu based(FastPath) mode type in
#smit -m or #msmit

If you type #smit without any flag, then the system will check whether the system has any graphical capabilities and accordingly proceeds.

The most preferred mode is ASCII mode as it can be used from any machine.

Eg:-
#smit mkuser
You get the menu required in menu format to create users.
